The process of producing carbonized bamboo fencing is referred to as carbonization. Sometimes referred to as caramelization, the carbonization process involves pressure heating the sugars in the bamboo resulting in a dark and rich amber color. Carbonized bamboo is not stained--its color comes from its processing--although varying degrees of shading will occur.
